HCI: Billtastic!

This was a semester-long project in which the class was asked to form design teams and create from the beginning a user interface that was designed properly. During this project we learned about all the steps required to ensure a user interface is something a user finds easy to use and powerful enough for their needs. In addition to the usual shared activities I was specifically responsible for creating the prototype. I made use of Dreamweaver and Inkscape to create the prototype. The project we came up with was an auto-payment system by the name of "Billtastic!"

The system was originally imagined as a desktop application that would sit in the system tray. After having created a number of alternate designs and hearing feedback from our peer reviews we actually decided to go with a web interface.

Over the course of the semester we became familliar with requirements gathering, task analysis, the importance of having multiple designs for one interface, the various prototype methods, writing usability specifications, evaluation plans and how to properly test users. We also learned about the various design tools like the Gestalt principles, Fitt's Law, and Hick's Law.
